Ribera del Guadiana

Designation of origin in Extremadura, in the provinces of Badajoz and Cáceres, known for ripe-fruited Tempranillo reds and whites from Cayetana Blanca, also known as Pardina.

Ribera del Guadiana covers vineyards in the provinces of Badajoz and Cáceres, spread across the subzones of Tierra de Barros, Matanegra, Ribera Alta, Ribera Baja, Montánchez and Cañamero. The climate is warm and dry, with very hot summers that favour ripe grapes and generously fruity wines. Leading red grapes include Tempranillo, Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, and among the whites, traditional varieties such as Cayetana Blanca (also known as Pardina) alongside Macabeo. It produces young and aged reds, whites and rosés.
